CSCS – Green Card

Green Card

This is the new qualification for all site operatives/labourers on Construction Sites (Green Card).

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) has made changes for obtaining a Labourer Card (Green Card). These new requirements were introduced from July 2014 and state that along with the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) Test, a qualification (or alternative) must be achieved in order to apply for the Labourer Card.  There are 2 routes to achieve the qualification:

  • Level 1 Award Health and Safety in a Construction Environment, 1 day course (includes revision for CITB Test) and open learning – no test – qualification lasts for life
  • Site Safety Plus one day H&S Awareness Course and test – has to be taken every 5 years as well as the CITB test

This course is for all Green Card holders or potential holders and has been a legal requirement since 2014.  You will need to have this certificate when you renew your Green Card – remember this certificate lasts for life and doesn’t have to be repeated every 5 years

The course lasts for 1 day, but some private study is required.  Included in the course is revision for the CITB test

The qualification you will receive is the: BTEC Level 1 Award Health and Safety in a Construction Environment

During the course, you will learn about

  • the principles of risk assessment for maintaining and improving health and safety at work
  • the importance of safe manual handling in the workplace
  • the importance of working safely at height in the workplace
  • the risks to health within a construction environment including asbestos
  • the importance of working around plant and equipment safely
